The Heritage Theater Ensemble, Yale’s Premier Black Undergraduate Theater group, is pleased to partner with the Beinecke Library to bring you a one day showcase event: Casting Shadows. In honor of the African American plays on display at the Beinecke, the members of the Heritage Theater Ensemble come together to perform a series of scenes and monologues selected from plays written by African American playwrights and currently on exhibit at the Beinecke. The plays from which the material was selected include, but are not limited to, Native Son by Richard Wright and Paul Green and In the Red and Brown Water by Yale School of Drama graduate Tarell Alvin McCraney. The selected scenes display racial integration in American theater over the years as well as discuss tensions that still exist in the performing arts. The showcase will take place on Saturday, April 18th at 1PM in the Beinecke Library.
